“The [CWC’s mission] is to expand market access and increase demand for Canadian wood products through its work in codes, standards, regulations and education.
“The CWC’s vision is a “Wood First” culture in North America where wood products are recognized as the sustainable building material of choice for residential and non-residential construction.”
The CWC offers excellent resources for wood specifiers, the goal of which is to make it easier, and preferable to use wood in construction over alternative materials. This includes an extensive library of publications, conveniently listed on their website. Most publications are available for free download.
In addition to “how to” manuals for practitioners, there are a wealth of ‘case study’ publications that are invaluable as marketing tools for wood products.
Wood Works!
“Our goal is to promote the use of wood and wood products in construction projects, and to acknowledge the contribution of wood-use advocates and industry leaders.”
Wood Works is a ‘project’ under the CWC, and the group most responsible for promoting wood construct in public buildings, other non-residential structures, and multi-family developments.
One of the premier events hosted by BC Wood Works Is the annual Wood Design Awards of BC.
“The Wood WORKS! BC Wood Design Awards bring together people from all sectors to recognize leadership and innovation in wood use. The awards also serve as an opportunity to publicly recognize and encourage continued excellence in the building and design community and in the forest industry. This high profile annual event celebrates innovative structural and architectural uses of wood and provides an opportunity for architects, engineers, building designers, builders and project owners to showcase their projects.”
